Motivational Monday

Sweat it Out:
50 Minutes Weights

Well my Monday is starting off great.  I tried to get to the gym right at 8 to meet my friend Kelly, didn’t get their until almost 8:15, cut my workout a little short so I could get Hanna to the Dr.’s office for her booster Flu Shot, and found out that it wasn’t until Wednesday!  Boo!  I am usually so good at remembering dates!  I must have a lot going on in my head right now trying to get everything done for Christmas before next week!  So much to do, this week should be interesting to say the least.

This is my motivation for this week. Lots to do and not a lot of time to do it in!  I don’t mind being busy, it really takes the focus off of constantly thinking about food!

Since this is my last week to make any sort of dent in my diet, I’m going to make a few goals for this week so that I can stay focused:

  • Drink 100 oz’s of water daily
  • Gym it up!  6 days, NO EXCUSES.  1 down, 5 to go.
  • Meal plan.  Getting this done today.
  • Eat my veggies.  This has been lacking lately. Some sort of green everyday.
  • Wear my bodybugg everyday.

I have found that if I wear my bodybugg to bed every night, it is WAY more accurate.  This is a good thing considering I was getting a little frustrated not hitting my 3100 calorie burn on days that I would workout like a beast!

#WEverb11 December 12: Thrive.  What was your healthiest habit of 2011?  What would you like to change or do differently in 2012?

My healthiest habit was drinking water.  It is pretty rare that I go a day without drinking at least three 32 oz. Nalgenes.  I have actually had a good habit of drinking a lot of water since I was in my early 20′s.  I get bladder infections pretty easily and if I don’t drink enough water, it is a definite that I will get one.

What I am doing differently, and will continue doing differently in 2012, is carbonated drinks.  Soda and energy drink are out this next year.  I’ve been doing really good lately, and as long as I keep a water bottle with me I seem to not be tempted to drink soda.

Sweet Tooth Challenge Update!

So far, this challenge has been helping me out this holiday season.  I did have some frozen yogurt last week, but it wasn’t necessarily Ice Cream (details).  I also drank about 8 oz. of Dr. Pepper when we had free Cafe Rio.  I had forgotten my water bottle and gave into temptation.  I’m not beating myself up. It happens, and it’s not the end of the world.  The fact that I haven’t had any Egg Nog this year is a miracle!  I shut my eyes past the displays at the store.

I purchased my Pea Protein (vegan protein powder) for the Vegan 21 day Kickstart, and I am excited to get started when I get back from Arizona!

Here’s to a successful holiday season so far!

How is your Holiday going?  Are you busy, busy, busy?

FMM: I Am _____________.

Sweat it Out:
Elliptical 1 Hour

I got to the gym this morning and I have a feeling that because I started my week sweating, it will help me to go everyday for the rest of this week.  Today my hubs has the morning off and so we are going to see if we can get a little Christmas shopping done, and then he is working nights for the next three days.  Since on his next week off we will be in Arizona, he is a working fool to make up for it.  I got a hard workin’ man!  This also means that my laptop goes with him so I may be blogging sporadically for the next few days.  I will most likely be combining my #WEverb11 posts for the next couple days.

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

FMM: I am…

1.  I am good at…….wrapping presents:

See?  I hate to say I told ya so.  I worked at Dillard’s in Customer Service (and gift wrap) for 4 years.  I spend almost as much money on wrapping paper and ribbon every Christmas as I do presents.  I hold my standards high, and the wrapping always has to be on point!  Lately, I have stuck to one wrapping paper and one kind of ribbon to keep it cheaper.

2. I am happy when……I am with family.  I moved away from all of my family a little over five years ago, and since then I look forward to each and every visit.  Especially now that I have Hanna, she loves her family so much!

3. I am working on…….losing weight (in case you’re a new reader). 2012 is going to be HUGE for me, I can feel it in my bones!

4. I am interested in……a LOT of things.  Just a few right now are exercise, music, movies, blogging, social media, handbags, shoes, etc.

5. I am always……up for a girls night.  Since the baby it is hard to get out, so I enjoy when I get to hang out with just the girls.

6. I am enjoying…….Christmas time!  Last year I was still recovering from c-section and getting use to the new little life that had taken over my world.  I just didn’t have time to enjoy Christmas shopping and decorating.  I couldn’t bake anything for friends, and because my baby was so new I wasn’t attending church because it was RSV season.  I love that I get to enjoy this holiday this year, it has been so nice to put my tree up and get to go shopping for others!

7. I am in……Colorado.  But I will be off to Arizona in two weeks to visit my brother and his family.  I am so excited!

8. I am reading……..The Girl Who Played With Fire  by Stieg Larrsen.  Unfortunately, I read about one page and then fall asleep.

9. I am concerned about…..Going on a plane with my baby for the first time.  I am really hoping that she behaves and doesn’t throw a fit!

10. I am looking forward to…..Besides going to Arizona, the new year!  There are going to be a lot of changes this upcoming year and I am anxious for them to start happening!

You are………….

Stop Me From Going Mental

Sweat it Out (Thursday’s Workout):
45 Minutes Weights
15 Minutes Foam Rolling

I’ll be honest:  it took me a couple of days to get over whatever funk happened on Wednesday.  I will say that I appreciate my mommy readers so much and the great comments that they left.  I’m also thankful for my mom who called me the moment she read my post.  It is moments like this that I need to pick up the phone and call someone instead of always trying to handle everything myself.  It’s good to have a shoulder to cry on.  I feel like I am getting back to semi-normal after having a bit of a freak out.  Getting use to motherhood is hard, that has got to be why it is one of the most rewarding jobs.

Since my last post I’ve decided that I need to rearrange a few things.  I’ve realized that Hanna still needs a morning nap and it has to be at 9:00 in order for her afternoon nap to pan out.  The reason this is tough is because I am a go-to-the-gym-right-when-you-wake-up kind of gal.  This last month I have been in the habit of getting up, getting Hanna changed and fed, and then I was out the door and to the gym by 9:00.  No time to think or talk myself out of going.  Like I have said in the past, I am a MAJOR creature of habit, so going back to this schedule is a bit worrying that I will be able to talk myself out of the gym by the time Hanna wakes up.

Here is my mantra for the rest of this year:  I am adaptable, I can do this.

I love my mom.  She holds me accountable no matter how crazy it makes me.  One of the things she asked me on the phone last night is whether or not I weighed in yesterday (since it was weigh in day, this is not a question she asks me regularly), and how my bodybugg has been going.  I had to come clean.  Yes, I weighed myself yesterday, and I weighed the same as the week before.  Yes, I have been wearing my bodybugg, but I haven’t been tracking my food.  As much as I didn’t like it, it made me think.  I told her that I would be happy if I maintained this weight during the holidays, and then really focus in the New Year, but I don’t think that would make me happy, it would make me feel a feeling that I really can’t think of, but it definitely wouldn’t be a feeling of happiness.

I am this journey for change, and every year I tell myself that I am so close to the new year it would be easier to just wait until January, but deep down I know I don’t want to do that.  I don’t want to get lost in the holidays and forget my goals.

On the Bodybugg front:  I love to watch how many calories I am burning while I’m at the gym.  Did anybody notice how much cardio I did the other day?!  Not that I think that could happen all the time, but I was 200 calories over my burn goal that day, and most of my goals were hit before noon.  I can’t complain about that!

I did make some Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies yesterday, which I am going to figure out the nutrition facts for (so I can track them) and write a post tomorrow about them.  I did make my hub’s take them to work, but he only took one bag.  I guess the other’s will be going in the freezer.  Out of sight, out of mind.

Okay, now I’m rambling when I should be getting ready for the gym.  One day at a time through the Holiday’s, I can do this!

“The New Rules of Lifting for Women”:

  • Deadlifts: 3 set of 10, 60 pounds
  • Underhand Lat Pulldown: 3 set of 10, 70 Pounds
  • Bulgarian Split Squat: 3 Sets of 10, 25 pound plate
  • Rear lunge with forward reach: 3 sets of 10, 16 pounds
  • Shoulder Press: 3 sets of 10, 35 pounds
  • Prone Jack Knife: 3 Sets of 15
  • Planks: 3 Sets of 60 second holds

Phase 5 starts next week!

I am Thankful for 24 Days….

Sweat it Out:
Elliptical 1 Hour (Tuesday’s Workout)

I am actually thankful all year round, but for the month of November I am going to try to focus on one thing I am thankful for everyday.  Not every day is going to be insightful and deep.  In fact, yesterday I was thankful that I have not been sick.  It seems everyone has, or is getting over a cold and I have been blessed to not have one yet (although I fear I am jinxing myself by just saying that).

Today I am thankful for vegetables.  After gorging on Halloween candy my body is SCREAMING for some nutrition!

New Month New Goals!!!

Each month I try to make 5 goals to accomplish for the month, and after birthday parties and Halloween, I am ready to clean the slate and start anew!

1. Remember that the holiday is one day each month, and not the WHOLE month!  I don’t know about you guys, but the holidays are just a big blurry eating fest, but really there are only about 4 days that you ACTUALLY celebrate.

  • Halloween:  Over and done with, thank goodness!
  • Thanksgiving:  Coming faster every year it seems.  One day a year to stuff yourself silly?  Totally doable as long as you dont’ stuff yourself the entire month of November.
  • Christmas Eve/Christmas:  Those two days should count as 1 day, and this year I will be in Arizona visiting my brother.  So there will be no snow outside to excuse myself from exercise.
  • New Years Eve/New Years Day:  New Years day should be a day to wipe the slate clean and focus on goals for the New Year!  But watch yourself on New Year’s Eve.  Luckily, I do not drink alcohol, so a sugar hangover will be the only thing I will be suffering from.
So the theme of this goal is to indulge on the holiday not the entire month.  There is no reason to get off track and overeat the entire holiday season!
I am realistic in thinking that it is ok to eat fun holiday food…..on the holiday.  Ok, nuff said.
2. Eat more vegetables.  I really like veggies, they are just not as convenient as fruit.  One great thing is that we are finally getting another Sam’s Club membership (we have no Costco, BLAST!), and that helps me to buy produce in bulk.  I find this method works for me because it is cheaper, readily available, and already prepared, for the most part.  It will make it easy to roast some veggies for lunch if I know I don’t have to wash, cut, and prepare them.  just throw them in the oven and go.
3. Finish Phase 4 of “The New Rules of Lifting for Women”.  This goal should be easy to accomplish considering I am LOVING weightlifting right now.  I am also LOVING the program, so no unrealistic expectations there!
4. List one thing a day that I am thankful for.  Whether big or small we can always find something to be thankful for and this is the month of counting your blessings!
5. Learn the Body Bugg system and figure out goals to go along with it.  My Body Bugg should get here on Friday and I am counting down the minutes.  My last goal for the month is to learn the system, figure out my calorie burn to calorie consume deficit, and start tracking!
  • What is a goal that you have for the month of November?
  • Do you struggle with the Holiday season and overeating?  If not, what helps you at this time of year?

Two Years Ago, 1 Year Ago, Today…

Two Years Ago…..

I was working at an Insurance Agency, and gearing up for the Holidays.  I had just quit the program Optifast, one of my last-ditch efforts to lose weight so that I could have a baby.  I got down to 235 and gained it back almost magically overnight.  Quick loss, quicker gain.  I was the only person working in an office that normally ran with 4 full-time agent staff members.  We kept a HUGE bowl of candy on the front reception desk, and with a lack of lunches I snacked on Twix’s and Kit-Kats all. day. long.  Stressful times brought on by training 2 new hires and going into Thanksgiving and Christmas caused a load of binges and mindless eating on a daily basis.  Lunch was brought in because I literally did not take a lunch for 3 months straight.  My boss’s wife (an amazing cook) made delicious cinnamon rolls, and baked goods by the dozen.  Clients brought in Christmas presents of donuts, snacks, and Enstrom’s Toffee.  I got to see my family for 24 hours that year and travelled in a snow storm through high elevation to get home for the holidays.  I ate myself silly and then made my way home to go back to work, and back to the daily grind.  What was my focus 2 years ago?  Keeping my head above water, and apparently keeping myself fed well.

One Year Ago…..

I was working at the same Insurance Agency, but had just gone to part-time, because I was ready to blow any minute.  I was at full term with my pregnancy, weighing in at 296 pounds and enduring the woes of Gestational Diabetes.  My toes were the size of sausages, and my beautiful slender ankles were now referred to as cankles.  I could make handprints in my legs with the amount of water I was retaining.  I had a stressful, induced labor with an emergency c section in the end.  I got the joy of having my mom take care of me for a week and a half, and my husband enjoyed my neediness and how I would cry at the drop of a hat because of the post-pregnancy hormones (I am an independent kind of gal, and my hub’s likes to know that I need him every once in a while). This was the first year in 10 YEARS that I got to enjoy the holiday’s with my family and didn’t have to rush back to work.  I celebrated by eating more.  Even though I got back down to my pre-pregnancy weight (272 lbs.), with breast-feeding I got up to 284 pounds so that my milk supply would stay up.  What was my focus last year?  Making it through post-pregnancy, and adjusting to the life of motherhood.

Today…..

I have not bought Halloween candy yet, and I probably won’t until the day of Halloween.  I won’t by 4 bags like a normally do because it never fails that I have 2 bags left over for me to eat.  This year I don’t have an office to go into everyday, no clients bringing me in food, and no candy bowl at the reception desk to dip my hand into every few minutes.  This year I have a one year old watching my every move.  I am no longer breast-feeding (not since April) and I don’t need extra food to magically create milk.  This year I can go to the gym at any time of the day I desire, and get my workout in after 5 am, unlike when I was working.  Today I will be able to make it through the Holiday’s without gaining weight, and possibly even losing weight.

Right now the only job I have is to take care of my daughter, husband, my home, and most importantly myself.  This time of year is going to change for me this year, and I am excited to see the outcome.  I am so blessed to be able to have this opportunity this year and I want to make sure I am taking full advantage of it.

What are you making your priority this year?  How are you gearing up for the upcoming holiday’s?

FMM:  Holidays!

What’s your favorite Holiday and Why?

I feel like this question is a little too easy for me to answer, but CHRISTMAS!  I’m pretty sure that I’ve mentioned in the past that my mom’s side of the family is extremely traditional and it has been engrained in my soul that Christmas is about spending time with family and keeping family traditions.  Let me tell you a few of our tradition that we share now or have shared in the past:

  • Christmas program with my extended family, showing off talents and such.  Especially the one where me and my brothers did a lip sync to the Oak Ridge Boys song Elvira with fake wooden guitars and nylon socks over our heads.
  • Gift exchange with cousins.
  • My mom picks a yearly children’s christmas book to add to our collections and reads it to us.  It is always a book that tugs at your heartstrings and all the girls are sniffling by the end.
  • My christmas bear.  My parents always got me a different stuffed bear every Christmas, and this last year my mom started the tradition of getting Hanna a bear.  So cute.
  • Christmas breakfast, always yummy.  My mom makes THE BEST scrambled eggs.
  • Finding the walnut in the Trifle.  I love you Aunt Mary!  And bless you for starting this super fun tradition.  One year we played a joke and each took a walnut and held it in our mouth.  When my Aunt Mary asked who got the walnut we all raised our hands.  It was hilarious.  I guess you had to be there.
  • Every year we have an extended family Christmas party.  I am truly blessed to have such amazing cousins, Aunts & Uncles.  I have the best family ever and I am thankful to be a close-knit group!  I get a little teary thinking about it.
  • Just plain spending time with family.  I haven’t gotten to enjoy the holidays until the last couple of years (I was in retail management for 10 years and you are a slave to the business).  We live about 4 hours away from my family and have to cross an extremely snowy pass called soldier summit to get there.  I appreciate every moment that I get to spend with my family and moving away from them has made me appreciate it even more!
This post is making me excited for the Holidays!
What’s your favorite Holiday/time of year?

Fire it Up!

Sweat it Out:
Elliptical 1 hour

What better way to gear up for the holiday’s than to start a couple of challenges for the fall!  I always work better if I have a goal to shoot for in my head and a group challenge is just what I need to keep my head straight!  I’ve decided to join in on a couple of events that will keep me focused and striving towards my ultimate weight loss goals.

Event #1:  The Golds Gym 8 Week Challenge!

Source

The challenge begins on Monday September 19th and goes for 8 weeks.  That’s right around Thanksgiving, just in time for Turkey and Pie!  To put your mind (and mine) at ease I plan on tracking all of the food I eat for Thanksgiving.  It will really put things in perspective.  The 1st place winner will receive a 2 night stay at the Wine Country Inn.  I don’t drink alcohol (wine), but a getaway (even if its close to home) would be fun for me and the hub’s.

Event #2: Fire Up For Fall!

This is a challenge put on by Weight Wars and created by Amy.  I got the information from Dom’s blog and she worded it so well I just pasted it here!

The premise is as follows:

  • You set yourself 5 or more goals to work towards over the 10 weeks of the challenge.
  • Every weekend you get an email Rebecca, it has some questions on it to post and answer on your blog on Monday.
  • Each week we also post a positive picture to lift everyone’s spirits and sum up the positive parts of our week.
  • Then you pop over to Weight Wars and link up at the bottom of my weekly post so everybody can meet you, and you can meet everyone else.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in, I invite you to join me!  The challenge starts on Monday, September 19th so sign up now.

So now I have 2 fun upcoming events and new challenges.  We all know how much I love goals and so I am excited to get started!

What is a challenge that you will give yourself for Fall?

Don’t have one?  Get one started!

Fourth of July Fun!

Our 4th started on the 2nd with some family firework fun!

Brothers + Fireworks = Keep fire extinguisher on hand.

After a relaxing Sunday we had a continuation of celebration starting with the “Provo City Art Festival”

I got to spend some time with My mom, brother Tyler, and sister-in-law Angela. It was over cast so it made the heat a little more bearable. It was a good 92 degrees. I also got a cute dress and bracelet for Hanna.

She didn’t seem to care.

Later on we got to go to my cousin Shauna’s house and had a cook out with my extended family. Of course, Hanna was so tired she wouldn’t let me put her down and I didn’t get any pictures :(

Cook outs are hard.  There was a lot of food including chips, dips, desserts, & drinks.  The one thing that was missing……..FRUIT!?!?!??!?!  I couldn’t believe that there wasn’t any fruit!  Granted, my family was in charge of bringing salads so it was our own fault.  This lead to dipping into the dessert a little, but all in all I ate waaaaaaaaaay less than I normally would.  I feel good about that.  We’ll see what happens at the weigh in tomorrow!

What did you do for the fourth?

Was there anything you regret eating?
I could have probably eaten one less cookie square, but I have to remember that I have 49 anytime points that I can use throughout the week, and that’s what they’re there for.

Recouping Sunday

Today should be a lazy day.  A great time to get Hanna caught up on sleep by actually taking naps that do not involve a car seat.

It is also a good time to get back on track.  Sunday is a family day for me.  I stay home and spend time with the people I love.  I also eat at home all day long, so this is the perfect time to track my food and get myself back on track.  Maybe I can come up with a plan of attack for the rest of my week, I mean, I WILL come up with a plan to stay on track for the next week.

Things I will stick to this week:

1.  I will go to my weigh in on Wednesday no matter how unsure I feel about losing.  You have to take the good with the bad.  Right now I don’t think I’ve gained, but my days have been lacking any structure so I never know.

2.  I will drink at least 3 Nalgenes of water a day. That’s 96 ounces. I have heard (please tell me if you know this to be true)  that you should drink half of your weight in ounces of water a day.  Really that would mean I should be drinking around 140 oz’s a day.  That’s like FIVE Nalgenes!  I’ve been carting my water bottle  everywhere and still seem to only be able to drink 2 (at home I drink like 4).  Suggestions?

3. Opt for fruit.  I LOVE July, it seems like all fruits are in season.  Especially watermelons and cantaloupes.  I’m pretty sure I’ve ate melon everyday this last week.

4. Hold the bun.  There will be a lot of barbecuing going on this next week and so I will be picky about my meat products and I won’t eat the bun to save on calories.  I have a bit of a wheat allergy so I have to be careful about the kinds of bread I eat.  I should probably be more careful about this, I think it would help the weight come off.  I’m just not ready to cut it out yet.

5. Salad, Salad, & more Salad.  Green is good.  My family always has green salad at cook outs and so I will load up on the greens.

6.  Walk it off.  The other great thing about this time of year is festival’s!  Utah has one of the best 4th of July celebrations around so I will be doing a lot of walking to get some activity points in.

7.  Quit worrying & enjoy time with family.  Most importantly I will enjoy spending time with my immediate and extended family.  This is one of the only times of year that I get to see most of my extended family and so food should really be the last thing on my mind.

There are my goals for the next week.  Initially I was going to do 10 but 7 seemed to be the perfect amount.  I don’t want to set any strict unattainable goals on a holiday week. That is just a set up for failure.

Happy Fourth of July peep’s!

Q’s
What are your plans for the 4th?

How much water do you usually drink in a day?

Too Busy to Eat!

I have had a VERY busy last couple of days.  Maybe its because I don’t really go a lot of places.  When you have to pack 5 bags for a baby just to go to a family members home, it gets tiring from the get-go.  You’re so busy planning on what kind of food you’re going to bring for baby that you forget to plan for yourself.

I will totally admit that I had “Five Guy Burger”  last night for dinner.  This is one of my biggest challenges: Eating well while eating out.  I try and plan telling myself that I will eat the healthiest thing on the menu and then boom, I see the thought of a bacon cheeseburger floating through my head and that’s all I can think about until I eat one.

I know that I chose the Weight Watchers  program because I like the point value system.  I can still eat what I want as long as it is in my points. I’m pretty sure that I ate my points and then some.

I started the day off by meeting my Sister-in-law so she could take me up to my other Sister- in-law’s so that we could go swimming.  I ate my breakfast of eggs, strawberries and an everything bagel thin with a laughing cow cheese.  It held me over until about 1.  We had so much fun swimming and Hanna was funny in the water for the first time.  She wasn’t sure how she felt about it.

I am forcing myself to take more pictures of myself and I actually have one of me in a swimsuit, but I’m not ready to post it.  I keep telling myself that they will be great before pictures.  Someday I will be able to look back on them and say “never again”.

Lunch was a small serving of tuna on bread with edamame and a serving (12) of Lay’s stacker’s.  That didn’t hold me over well enough because when “Five Guys” was  brought up my mouth started salivating and I couldn’t say no.

I was kind of proud of myself because I didn’t eat all of my fries or hamburger.  Sometimes you have to notice the little things.

Finally got home at around 9 and my mom’s fridge went out (that was fun).  Spent the rest of the night divvying out food to my Gramma’s deep freeze and fridge. She got a repair guy out today and then we had to move everything back in.

Couldn’t get my baby to sleep for 45 minutes (her bedtime at home is 7, so she was ornery as ever).  Woke up the next morning at 7 to get ready to go to the Farmers Market in Salt Lake City.  That was so much fun( I totally forgot to take pictures, boo).  Had a VERY small quesadilla that was delish.  It was made with a blue corn tortilla, cheese, black beans, guacamole, and raw onions.  I gobbled that bad boy up.  But I’m serious when I say it was SMALL.

I spent the rest of the day making baby food for my little one.  Bottled baby food has been doing a number on her digestive track.  She’s just not use to eating it for every meal.  Finally got her down to bed around 8:20, and then FINALLY got to sit down for dinner where I had barbecue pull chicken on a piece of Asiago Bread form Farmers Market, watermelon, and a superb strawberry salad with poppy seed dressing.

So now I am tired, and the holiday weekend is just starting…….

Q’s
If you have kids, have you ever made homemade baby food?
My baby LOVES fresh baby food.  She likes it WAY more than bottled!

DO you like fruit in your salad?  What is your favorite dressing?
I love Ranch dressing, but trying not to have it and branch out.  Poppy seed is a close second, and you can usually find a good low cal sub
