About

Hi!  My name is Carrie and I am shrinking, literally.

Have you ever had a lifelong battle that you are trying to conquer for the last and final time?  That is what I blog about here at shrinkingcarrie.com.  I have been overweight my entire life.  Sure, I have had a few tastes of what thin feels like throughout my life, but never until now have I had the desire to have a fit, HEALTHY body.

My story is not unlike anyone who is overweight.  I was a chubby kid and it followed me in to my adult life.  When I was 19 I did some extremely unhealthy dieting, and lost 90 pounds.  I decided that I wanted to live a healthy, active life and in pursuit of that dream I met my now husband.

When I met my husband was when I truly felt what it was like to be loved, and in turn it helped me to love myself.  With my happiness came less gym time, and more going out to eat.  It wasn’t long before I had gained back the 90 pounds and then some.

After four years of marriage we decided it was time to start a family.  My weight affected our chances of getting pregnant and I was very hard on myself, telling myself “if I really wanted a child I would lose the weight”.  I told myself I was selfish for the lack of self-control, and that there was a little soul that was waiting for me if I could just get my eating under control.

Months of trying to get pregnant turned into years and then by some miracle we found out in March of 2010 that we were expecting!

My pregnancy was hard and I was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes.  I had to completely change the way I was eating, and it was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do.  It also made me look at food differently.  They told me if I wasn’t careful, I could get Type II Diabetes post pregnancy.  I was bound and determined that I would never let it get that far.

I had my beautiful baby girl in October of 2010 and I was determined to lose the weight and get the healthy body that I have wanted for so long.  This time it is different.  I want to show my daughter how to live her best life, and that you can do anything you want with hard work and determination.

In June of 2011 I started this blog as a way for me to connect with other bloggers, and to hold myself accountable.  Since then I have participated in numerous challenges and have met a tight knit community that I am proud to be apart of!  If you are a new reader please feel free to leave a comment so I can get to know you, and thanks for reading!

Hi Carrie! I too have struggled with my weight. We are struggling with infertility and have gone through 4 rounds of fertility treatment with no luck. We have committed to becoming fit and healthy and one of the ways we are doing this is by adopting a vegan way of eating. It is not easy but we are determined this is the only way to get healthy. We want a family of our own so bad it makes our hearts ache. Hopefully by getting the weight off and getting healthy it will happen naturally. Fertility treatment is torture.

    • I am so sorry to her that you have had problems with infertility. I know that heartache all to well. One good thing about getting healthy before getting pregnant is that you won’t have to deal with the horrible things that come with being overweight and pregnant. I wish I would have tried a vegan lifestyle forever ago, but we have to do things when we’re ready. I wish you good luck on your venture and I hope I get to hear from you often! Thank you for reading!
