Yes. That there is a positive pregnancy test, which means I’m expecting baby #2! I’ll try to give a little back story without giving out too much TMI.
If you are new around here (probably not since I haven’t put fingers to keyboard in like 3 weeks!), then you know that my weight loss journey started after I had my daughter Hanna in October 2010. Totally heinous labor story which ended up in an emergency cesarean. Throughout the pregnancy I was fortunate to get Gestational Diabetes (what a joy!). The last 3 months of my pregnancy was spent counting carbohydrates, and eating a TON of eggs.
When the hub’s and I started talking about trying for baby #2 (Hanna needs a sibling asap), our initial timeline was to start trying in January of 2013. Imagine my surprise when I came home from 4th of July vacation and Dustin was ready to kick birth control to the curb. Imagine my even MORE of a surprise when it worked on the first try.
For those of you who have read my “about” page you will see that it took us FIVE years to get pregnant the first go around, and I think we thought we were getting an earlier start just in case a wait was in our future. We were sorely mistaken.
I told Dustin a week after that I was pretty sure it took and I was experiencing some pregnancy side effects. He didn’t believe me. When I texted him the photo above I put the caption “I am almost NEVER wrong”.
I now am experiencing that joyful yet stressful emotion you get when you are so excited for something so wonderful, but so consumed with thoughts of “how will I make this pregnancy different?”.
Then: Working at a desk job dealing with people’s insurance needs all day.
Now: Running after an almost 2-year-old all day.
Then: Didn’t exercise once the entire pregnancy.
Now: I work out for at least 1 hour daily.
Then: Ate fast food at my desk during my lunch break, and went out to dinner at least 3-5 times a week.
Now: Eat most meals at home, and have adopted a plant-based diet (for the most part).
As you can see there are quite a few differences from my first pregnancy and this next one. I’ve even started taking my glucose readings every now and then just to keep myself in check.
The only issue I’m having is morning sickness (more like ALL DAY sickness). Vegetables sound horrible right now and there was a portion of last week where I ate quite a bit of junk food because it was the only thing I could keep down. Also, I need to get my protein intake between 75-100 throughout the pregnancy so I’ve decided to add in some egg whites and greek yogurt back into my diet and I’m trying to track my food so I’m not going to over on calories.
So what does this mean for the blog?
It’s kind of hard to lose weight while pregnant and maintain the proper fuel, vitamins, and nutrients your body needs to build a healthy baby. At this point my hope is to not gain (after talking with my midwife she agrees). We have also discussed doing a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) and so I want to keep myself in tip-top shape so that this is a possibility, which means exercise in non-negotiable.
I’m still going to blog (you can’t get rid of me that easily), but it will be more centered around a healthy pregnancy. I hope you all will follow along in my journey! And if not, I hope you will come back after March 30, 2013 when I will be getting back to my weight loss focus!
