Weight Loss Killer

Sweat it Out:
50 Minute Hilly Walk
20 Minute Strength Training
650 calories burned, according to Bodybugg

I miss when I use to start every post with what my workout was for the day, so let it be said “sweat it out” is back on the books!  This is the first time I have worked out in about 4 days and in all honesty it is because I have been having some stomach issues lately.

Ya, it’s going to be one of those post’s again!  If you are a new reader I will warn you that through the years I have become increasingly obsessed with BM’s.  I have had an inconsistency of them my entire life which has left me asking everyone and their dog about how frequently they use the bathroom to try to get some idea of what the norm is.

The thing is, for me at least, not going to the bathroom on a regular basis is a weight loss killer.  My weight can fluctuate up to 3 pounds if I have not been going as often as I should.  The food goes in, and nothing comes out.  Sometimes even for days at a time.

Odd thing is that when I was doing a plant-based diet I went everyday, and I felt that lightness and emptiness that I should feel on a daily basis.  I don’t know if it was because I was drinking Kombucha almost everyday (which has a TON of probiotics in it for healthy digestion) or it was all the fruits and vegetables I was eating.  I’m sure it was a combination of the two.

Three weeks ago I started eating dairy and meat again and there are a few things that I have noticed:

  • Inconsistent bowel movements (obviously)
  • Horrible sleep patterns (waking up more frequently, feeling hot, waking up several times a night
  • Low energy
  • Skin breakouts, like GINORMOUS zits all over my chin, so gross!

So here I am again, trying to make some changes to my diet…..again.  I want to do what is going to work best for my body and my weight loss, and I am tired of having a bloated stomach, and having inconsistent patterns in my digestion.  The hub’s has agreed that I should go back to plant-based, and with his blessing it’s ON.

On a lighter note, I will be happy to see my grocery bill go down (yes, I said DOWN).  Whenever we are eating vegan my grocery bill is almost non-existent.  Fruits, veggies, and beans etc., are cheap my friends!

The one thing I will be doing this go around is counting and measuring.  If I can keep my calories to 1400 and get some kind of workout in everyday, I think the scale will show it.

Wish me luck, and for some smooooth results (sorry, I couldn’t resist)!

Anyone else out there obsessed with people’s pooping schedules?

Ever seen the series Downton Abbey? The hub’s and I cannot stop watching it!  Every evening after we put the babe’s to bed we watch an episode, and I am LOVING it!

  1. I am extremely obsessed with my poop. I know that it nothing is coming out right then I’m not right. When I first started on my merry healthy journey I’d poop once a day and it always… difficult to get out. Now that I’m on track with veg and fruit I actually go twice a day, once at 6:30am and once at 9:30am. It’s amazing what 9 months of good eating will do. That being said if I have one off meal, I’m totally off and plugged up. ;-) TMI? Naw, I think we’re all obsessed with our poop, some of us are just afraid to admit it. Kudos for devoting a post to it.

    • I don’t think there is such a thing as TMI with me! Twice a day? I wish I was you! Even when I eat completely plant-based and go regularly its once a day!

  2. Lol. My bm schedule is very consistent. I don’t eat processed foods really and eat a lot of fibre.
exercise also helps, uh, move things along.

    • I don’t eat a lot of processed foods either, but I have always had weird bowel issues. I have a very sensitive stomach, and it sucks!

  3. Talking about BMs is commonplace for me and not just with my patients. Because I’m a nurse family members and friends think it’s perfectly acceptable to discuss their BMs with me. Fortunately I’m not the least bit squeamish when it comes to poop talk.

I don’t regularly struggle with bowel issues, but I do notice a difference in how I feel since I have limited dairy to the occasional yogurt and even less occasional cheese.

If a plant based diet makes you feel better overall what is it that makes you go back to meat and dairy after a time? It sounds to me like your body is trying to tell you something. I find your physical observations really interesting. By the time I gave up meat I wasn’t eating much of it anyway so I never noticed anything too drastic, but I do believe that their is much validity to research such as the China Study in the way that animal products negatively affect our bodies and ultimately our health.

I’ve been hearing lots of people raving about Downton Abbey. One of these days I’ll check it out.

    Best of luck Carrie!!

    • The reason I have such a hard time with staying strictly plant-based is because I LOVE animal products. Yogurt and cheese especially. Obviously since I am over weight, I don’t necessarily do things that are good for my body, and sometimes when you are feeling at your best you revert back to old ways thinking you know better. Also, I love going out to eat which gets hard when you don’t eat animals.
The problem is this: My body agrees with plant based, it works for me all around. I need to be honest with myself and just make sure I am tracking all of my food. I read the book “21 Days to Kick-start Your Weight Loss”, which is a vegan book, and the author said to not worry about tracking calories while you were beginning. My body does not lose weight this way. I have to stay at a low caloric intake in order to lose weight, and this time around I am planning on tracking and measuring all of my calories to see if it makes a difference in my weight loss.
There have just been too many side affects that I have noticed since putting animal products back into my diet, and so I am just going to have to find ways to keep plant-based interesting and tasty. I have learned a lot about myself in the past year since blogging and observing the way my body works. Now I just need to stick to the plan!
Downton Abbey is fabulous! And the first season is on Instant Play on Netflix. You should definitely check it out when you have a chance!

Try ACV pills (Apple Cider vinegar). I tried the drink and that didn’t work out for me but I bought the bills at a local health food store and they have worked amazingly well. They help with bloat, BM’s, skin issues & sinus issues. ACV is like a cure all. I have always had issues with going and about after a week after I started taking these it has been an every day occurrence when it use to be every 2-3 days.
